YOU ME publishes guidebooks for KIPO concerning the Protection of International
       Intellectual Property Rights



KIPO recently selected YOU ME to publish a series of guidebooks covering topics concerning the ways in which IP rights are protected abroad, and how such protection could be used in South Korea to further improve the IP system. The research undertaken and results were as follows:

"Analysis and Issues of the United States Trademark Law and System"

Researchers: Patent Attorneys Mr. Hyun-Suk Choi, Mrs. Chin-Hi Kim, Mr. Bong-Young Lee and International Attorney Mr. Hunjoon Kim
Contents: This publication comprises nine different sections focusing on the US trademark system and the concepts that are absent from the Korean trademark system. Particular issues include the enforcement of Tradedress in the US as well as geographical location as an indicator of trademark ownership. As a whole, this publication provides valuable insight into the pros and cons of the Korean trademark system.

"Research into the present state of IP infringement in China"

Research Period: April - June 2006

Researchers: Patent Attorneys Mr. Won-Suk Oh, Ms. Jin-Hua Cui, Mrs. So-Jung Jeon
Contents: Data collected from companies which have been party to an infringement as a result of exporting or importing their goods from both Korea and China. The data was collected through questionnaires and by making direct calls to relevant parties. Data was obtained from over 486 Korean and Chinese companies and information was gathered regarding issues such as fees for infringement litigation, the procedures involved and the ways in which intellectual property rights are handled in China.
